Thank you for your support of Albuquerque-based Pluma Construction Systems. As you know, we provide a full suite of commercial construction services and residential remodeling. Built on a quality foundation of unwavering ethics and quality workmanship we created the Pluma Leadership Minute (heard on 770 KKOB-AM) as a way to share insights with influential people, like you!

Over the last 14 weeks we have reviewed leader characteristics such as Trust, Integrity, Persistence, Patience, Courage, Personal Responsibility, Wisdom, leading by example, Initiative, Attitude, Resilience, Vision, Communication and Agility. Today we focus on Goals.

Visionary Tony Robbins said “Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.”

Why is goal setting crucial? It forces you to decide and focus on what is important to you. Deliberate goal setting helps you measure your progress, give you focus, overcome procrastination, visualize your dreams and give you motivation.

Goals align our focus. If you are not clear on what you want to achieve, you cannot create a plan to get there. Establishing and focusing on your goals will set the stage for getting you to your desired destination.

The development and establishment of goals, helps us deconstruct the objective into attainable, concrete, time-bound actions that we can measure to track progress. Clear goals and objectives are a critical process in the success of leadership development.

Establishing goals will hold you accountable and create a laser focus on the target. It should motivate us and give us something to strive for. It should help us to create and visualize our future.

Your goals give you direction. Your goals give you something to shoot for. This direction and target you create in your mind will help you to progress towards your main life goals rather than simply wander around aimlessly. These goals will help you align your actions and behaviors as you continue moving forward.

Your goals can sometimes help you to create mental barriers, or blinders, that help you to remain focused on what you think is important and avoid the things that are second priority. When you outline goals for yourself, you are better able to avoid things that distract you from achieving and accomplishing those goals.

So, why is goal setting important? Because it gives you direction, alignment, and purpose!
